Arizona Game and Fish Bird Projects - 1995
Arizona Game and Fish Department
PROJECT TITLE: Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas
KEYWORDS: Atlas, breeding birds
AGENCY/UNIT: Arizona Game & Fish Dept. Nongame Branch
STATUS: Ongoing
EXPECTED COMPLETION DATE: Field work - 2000, Publication - 2002
DESCRIPTION: The atlas will provide detailed site-specific data on breeding birds and
establish compterized database on statewide distribution and abundance. The overall
purpose of the project is to identify the distribution and relative abundance of breeding
birds in Arizona and document future range expansions and constractions. The
specific objectives of the atlas are to provide baseline information which will assist in
the management of Arizona's bird species, particularly nongame and endangered
species. The information will provide directions for further habitat assessments for
selected priority species and will also increase our knowledge pertaining to breeding,
distribution, and significant concentration areas. Data collected will be designed to be
compatible with other atlas projects and will be repeatable for long-term monitoring.
The project will promote public education and facilitate public involvement in wildlife
management activities.
